I’m having an impossible time being in the holiday spirit without Phil. In fact, I find it unimaginable living in a world without Phil.
I met Phil 50 years ago in the newsroom at WCBS Radio. Phil was on the tech side and a veteran in his field. But even to a newbie like me, Phil was friendly and helpful and respectful, just like he was with everyone he encountered—whether peers, supervisors, subordinates or celebrities. Everyone loved Phil and I became friends with him immediately. He was smart, energetic and fun loving. We played softball in Central Park, we had beers after work, and I looked up to him like another big brother. When Phil said he was in search of a new tennis partner, I lept at the chance to introduce him to my sister Jeanne. For the next two years we double dated—he with Jeanne, I with Natalie—and formed a lifelong bond as friends and future family. Ever since, it was holidays at Phil’s home and summers at the beach. Phil remains one of the original and most dedicated “clamaniacs” in Big Brother Frank’s entourage, and among the greatest of all Mets fans born of Brooklyn Dodgerdom. He was the person who, on a windy, chilly overcast day at Gosman’s Dock in Montauk, introduced me to the exotic pleasures of steamer clams. We chased blues together along the Amagansett shoreline and fished striper blitzes in Montauk. No one relished a baked stuffed lobster or a dish of linguine a la vongole with more panache than Phil. And I will never look at a baked artichoke without mouthwatering memories of the giant leafy beauties he overstuffed to perfection many an Easter Sunday.
I’m happy that I will remember Phil as he was at my house at the beach this past summer—strong, smiling, joking and happily engaged in our Christmas In July family reunion.
Like his entire extended family and legion of friends, I am diminished without him. And the world is lesser place in his absence.

Phil was my Dad’s best friend and he was a cherished part of our entire family. So many good memories with the Cecchini’s through the years! I can still hear Phil making fun of me retelling the story from my early childhood where I wanted to show off my baton twirling skills to Phil and my Dad. Well, the baton went flying and it wiped out all the pegs on their cribbage game they were playing! LOL. They were not too happy with me! Jean, we love you and we loved Phil equally as much. He will be sooo missed by the Fahan family. Our hearts go out to you and Michael.
With love,
Robin Fahan Evans

My uncle Phil will always have a place in my heart. His laughter, his way of including everyone with his big personality, the way he listened to you and you knew he heard you. But most of all was his love for family. He will be missed greatly.

My dear cousin Phil will be remembered by his love and devotion to his family. We all enjoyed his stories of the Marino family, times in Brooklyn, Mountain Lodge Park,
And just his life in general. He will truly be missed at our Christmas table. So proud to have him in my life.
